Spiritual Warfare (5) ~ How to pray against powers and principalities
Although Ephesians 6 is most often quoted in the support of spiritual warfare – there are other important scriptures. Also, keep in mind even though Paul’s epistle is primarily addressed to the Ephesian fellowship – it has an overarching application applicable throughout the Church age. In addition, chapter six is integral to the preceding five chapters. Therefore, in order for the body to function in it’s fullness – spiritual warfare (lifestyle) is essential.
STRUCTURE OF EPHESIANS
Salutation (1:1-2). Christ the Head of the body (1:3-23). The Church – the body of Christ (2:1-3:21). Conduct of the believers (4:1-6:9). The Christians warfare (6:10-20). Conclusion (6:21-24). (Quote: The Amplified Bible)
SCRIPTURES (Ephesians, 2 Corinthians, Mark, Matthew and Colossians)
10: Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty strength. 11: Put on the whole armor of God so that you may be able to stand firm against the devil’s strategies. 12: For our struggle is not against a human opponent, but against rulers, against authorities, against cosmic powers in the darkness around us, against evil spiritual forces in the heavenly realm. 13: For this reason, take up the whole armour of God so that you may be able to take a stand in that evil day. And when you have done everything you could, you will be able to stand firm. 14: Stand firm, therefore, having fastened the belt of truth around your waist, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness. 15: And having put shoes on your feet so that you are ready to proclaim the gospel of peace. 16: In addition (above all), to all of these, having taken up the shield of faith, with which you will be able to put out all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17: Also take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18: Pray in the Spirit at all times with every kind of prayer and request there is. For the same reason be alert with every kind of effort and request for all the saints. (Eph 6:10-18).
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds. Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.
(2 Cor 10:3-5).
But no one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man; then indeed he may plunder his house. (Mk 3:27).
Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. (Matt 18:18).
He (Abba Father) stripped the rulers and authorities of their power and made a public spectacle of them as he celebrated his victory in Christ. (Col 2:15)
There it is saints – our victory (in Him) was established and guaranteed at Calvary.
N.B. Above all, take up the shield of faith, with which you will be able to put out all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.
Shield of Faith – Helmet of Salvation – The Sword of the Spirit (the Word of God) – Praying in the Spirit for all saints.

ATTITUDE
From the outset, it is imperative to grasp that our ability to engage in spiritual warfare rests solely with our beloved Lord Jesus – His Power! In other words, acknowledgement of His supremacy over all – then walking in that understanding.
“Do not be conformed to this world, but continually be transformed by the renewing of your minds so that you may be able to determine what God’s will is – what is proper, pleasing, and perfect.” (Rom 12:2)
